Welcome to the Inaugural episode of Music Matters Podcast with your host - Darrell Craig Harris.
My special guest on this first episode is Nigel J. Farmer. Like myself, he's constantly on the go! His background and travels are wide-ranging, and he's the editor in chief of one of the top jazz magazine. He's a lot more, and he's my friend, and actually the intro/outro voiceover and co-producer with me on Music Matters podcast. Listen in and hear this cheeky chap and his English voice as he answers my questions and makes comments on some of his many music-related projects. And all from on top of a hill in SW France. Some of the links to his endeavours are below.
Remember, that in upcoming shows I have lots of Music Matters guests lined up. Please do check out our social media channels and appreciate your support and LIKES at a time when Music Matters even more to all of us. Perhaps as a space to go and seek sanctuary, happiness and rejuvenation.

Music Matters Podcast now uses the new SHURE MV7 as my good friends at Audio Geer sent me one in a gorgeous silver (also comes in black) to try and I'm now hooked...
Nigel J. in SW France also recently received his black SHURE MV7 for use in his podcast studio and as a back up for his voice overwork. Listen as Nigel J. and I explain some of the really great benefits of owning this dynamic microphone.
Inspired by the legendary SM7B, the MV7 is a dynamic microphone with USB and XLR outputs, suitable for use with computers as well as professional audio interfaces. Connect it via USB and explore the setting possibilities and automatic level adjustment mode offered by the ShurePlus ™ MOTIV app, which allows you to control the sound of your voice or your distance from the microphone. With the automatic level adjustment mode, the microphone does the work for you.

It was great to re-connect with Dave at his home in south-east London, UK. After a long British summer, Dave found himself not only in the second lockdown but to boot it was raining - I wonder if it was sunny would he have spoken to me in his garden with a great British beer in-hand! Our chat was insightful and great fun. Amongst many achievements Dave has been the featured bassist on 7 double platinum-selling albums - so we could have spoken for hours!
Below is a shortened - extract of Dave's extensive professional experience - which I encourage you to read and visit his website and social media channels.
Since joining Jools Holland and His Rhythm and Blues Orchestra in 1991, Dave Swift has established himself as one of the UK’s finest, high-profile bass players. In his 30+ year career makes for an impressive portfolio, playing with renowned artists such as George Benson, Chaka Khan, Eric Clapton and Paul Simon. This list of famous names continues on and on...
Dave has performed at many prestigious events including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Dubai International Jazz Festival, Blue Note Tokyo, Amnesty International, the Montreux Jazz Festival, Glastonbury Music Festival, and a G8 Conference for world leaders, which included former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and President Bill Clinton. Additional performances include the Millennium Night celebration at the Millennium Dome for Her Majesty the Queen and a sell-out concert at the Sydney Opera House during their 2008 tour of Australia and New Zealand.
Dave Swift has been the in-house bassist for Chris Evans’s primetime Saturday night TV show, Don’t Forget Your Toothbrush, and Name That Tune on Channel 5. Since their inception, Dave Swift has performed on both the BBC TV show, Later…with Jools Holland, and the Jools Holland Show on BBC Radio 2. Where there is music, there is Dave Swift; he’s recorded on many British movie soundtracks, which include: Secret Friends (Dennis Potter), MILK (Dawn French), Kevin and Perry Go Large (Harry Enfield & Cathy Burke), and Hunting Venus (Martin Clunes). More recently he recorded the soundtrack for the period drama Me & Orson Welles, starring Zac Efron, Christian McKay and Claire Danes.
Dave Swift continues to tour both in the UK and around the world. To read a full bio, click here.

When you have a friend that's happy to pick you up from the airport at a moments notice and has been picked by Billy Joel as a protégé. It's time to ask him to chat on your new podcast. What a great podcast show this became. Lots of backstage sharing and a real treat to hear Michael play for us all live from his home studio in Las Vegas. Read some short extracts from a resume that's like a mini-book - Michael Cavanaugh is the new voice of the American Rock & Roll Songbook and a charismatic performer and musician made famous for his piano/lead vocals in the Broadway musical Movin’ Out. Handpicked by Billy Joel to star in Movin’ Out, Cavanaugh evokes a style rivalling the Piano Man. In this lead role, he received both Tony and Grammy nominations. After the end of the broadway show in late 2005. Michael started touring and soon became one of the hottest artists in the private events market, and he continues to perform worldwide for company and charity events as well as sporting events including many PGA tour events, the SuperBowl, and the Indy 500. His interpretation of the modern rock/pop songbook led to Billboard calling him “The New Voice of the American Rock and Roll Songbook,” and he was recognized by Reuters as Entertainer of the Year for the private events market.
Michael continues to tour all of his well-known four symphony productions along with performing with his band in performing arts centers and other public venues.
“The Way I Hear It”, his second commercial album, was released in April 2017, and it debuted at #17 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.
In 2020, Michael Cavanaugh reached the POLLSTAR Live75. The top 75 active touring acts in the country.

Listen in on my insightful and moving chat with Bassist Rudy Sarzo which really impacted me! Rudy and I spoke about many things including why connection through music is part of the vital life-blood that musicians can give to their audiences as well as receive from the audience with gratitude. Also, Rudy shared his feelings about the tragic unexpected passing of Ozzy’s legendary guitarist Randy Rhoades, and the last moment's Rudy spent with his long time friend and bandmate from Quiet Riot Frankie Banali! It was very honest, real, and very emotional! I hope you get a chance to hear what Rudy has to share. Rudy’s a very spiritual guy which he talks about in our chat, he made it clear that both Randy and Frankie were family to him!

Welcome to this episode of Music Matters Podcast. This time my very special guest is a man and artist that I've admired for a long-time. The one and only Rock Bass Guitar legend Billy Sheehan.
Billy is known for his work with Talas, Steve Vai, David Lee Roth, Mr. Big, Niacin, and The Winery Dogs. Sheehan has won the "Best Rock Bass Player" readers' poll from Guitar Player magazine five times for his "lead bass" playing style. Billy currently lives in Nashville and it was really a pleasure to chat with both a fellow pro bass player, and hear him share some of his backstories, his thoughts, current and future plans with me. We covered a lot of areas in our hour-long chat over Zoom.
I highly recommend you check out his website and sign up for his social media channels to keep up to date with ALL things Billy Sheehan
