My special guest this time is Dean Bushala. He is a commercial and television Producer, Director and Cinematographer. He has directed series for National Geographic, History and Discovery Channel. He started his career designing and branding television networks in Europe. Listen in as Dean and I cover a lot of ground in our 1-hour fun and insightful chat.
Dean explains how and why he got attracted from an early age to film. He shares some funny and interesting anecdotal stories including some of the risks in achieving TV shows that can be popular in both the US domestic market and also language dubbed, and remain successful in other countries. Dean talks about diversity and quality of the people he gets to work with and shares some advice for younger people wishing to get deeper into the film industry. Honestly, 1-hour was not long enough but it was sure real quality time spent...
Dean has his own company called Red Branch Productions which is well worth exploring. One of Deans passions is to give back and help educate children through his newly co-created children's live-action animated film documentary series - here's just one example: Ebo's Adventures - Song: What's in the Sea'.
I'm rounding off these show notes with direct text from Deans website because I want to highlight this exceptionally talented, and I sense, humble individual...and below is just the first paragraph!
Dean is an Emmy-winning Producer and Director of Photography. His documentary films and commercial work have taken him to some of the world's most remote locations, from several hundred miles out onto the frozen Arctic Sea, to floating through the Amazon jungle on a man-made raft, to 60 feet under water SCUBA diving with sharks off the coastal reef of Belize.

My special guest on this episode is a music clearance and licensing expert - Kevin Magowan. Raised in Los Vegas, Nevada, he was fortunate enough to meet Elvis! A born Rocker, as a young man Kevin made his way to Los Angeles, and started his career in the music business with the music publishing legend Al Gallico. Then he went on to Walt Disney Studios and worked for Evan M. Greenspan/EMG. INC in the area of music clearance and licensing. Kevin share valuable insights into the do's and don't of this complex area of the music industry, so take heed, of the valuable nuggets' of info he shares with me. Kevin's life-long love of music has never waned, he continues to write and takes the opportunity to share his passion by performing ever chance he gets.
Kevin's life-long passion for all things Buddy Holly, inspired him to petition and secure the Buddy Holly Hollywood Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He personal arranged to have the Star on Vine street next to the members of The Beatles, who have always acknowledged they were so inspired by Buddy and his music. The ceremony took place on what's was to have been Buddy's 75th birthday - September 7th, 2011. Through Kevin's efforts and devotion to this cause that date is now officially known as the Buddy Holly Day in Hollywood. If that wasn't enough - Kevin also was instrumental in getting the famous - Buddy Holly - "The Apartment Tapes" officially released. Through all this he has and remains a personal friend of Maria Elena Holly - Buddy's widow.
You can connect with Kevin via his Facebook Page.

What a pleasure to chat with this legend of music. Let me ask you a question: What do Miles Davis, Luther Vandross, Sting, Roberta Flack, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, George Benson, Michael Jackson, David Sanborn, Vanessa Williams, and hundreds of other legendary artists and musicians have in common?
Yes...they've all worked with Grammy Award-winning producer, keyboardist, composer, arranger, and synthesist Jason Miles. For 46 years, Miles has contributed his vast array of talents and deep musicality to the success of these and countless other superstars and independent artists. This man's talent, knowledge, and stories could fill a book
Actually, Jason Miles will be doing just that. The book is almost complete and is titled - The Extraordinary Journey of Jason Miles...A Musical Biography. Jason gives me little snippets of insider backstage/room things that are covered in this new book.
One, never to stand still, Jason shares exciting insights into the motivation(s) for his latest projects completed just before covid and while in lockdown, and he's fired up and ready to take his latest album - Kind of New- Black Magic out onto an International tour. This is a man with real genuine passion and energy for all things music, life, and love. Highly recommend you go over to his website, bookmark it and follow him on his social media channels.
Let's finish off with a quote about Jason Miles from another icon of the music industry;
“Jason Miles has raised the level of excellence for the musicians who have had the good fortune of working with him, myself included. He has enriched the lives of the millions of people who have listened to the music he plays, the recordings he produces, and the countless musicians he mentors and inspires. The work he did with my friends, Miles Davis and Marcus Miller have helped to define the modern face of jazz music."
- Roberta Flack
Here is the website link I promised to keep up to date with ALL things - Jason Miles Music - website. Plus his social media and music channels.
